The curious case of Benjamin Button

When I first saw the trailer of this movie, it seemed a bit odd and I was not sure if it would be a good film. But it definitely is. Based on Scott Fitzgerald's short story, it is very well directed, acted, written and produced. Brad Pitt's performance as Benjamin Button is hilarious, as he had to act as a human being through all the stages of his life. This was particularly challenging, as a body of a different actor had to be used to give life to Benjamin Button's stage as a child (but with the body of a very old man), while Pitt had to shoot separately the facial expression of Benjamin Button, the main character.

It is not easy to direct a film about a child who is born with the body of an old man, and that instead of naturally getting older, gets younger every day, until he becomes a baby, with the life experience of an old person. The love story within the film is great, specially the connection of Button and Daisy Fuller (played by Cate Blanchett). The film is a very good candidate to win several Academy Awards, and makeup should be one of them. So if you want to see a wonderful performance of Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, in a film with a very deep message about life, go to the cinema right now.

(It's a pleasure to keep contributing to this blog, now from the other side of the Atlantic.)
